Joanne McKinley
Software Engineer
Google
Joanne is a software engineer at Google, specializing in wireless/mobile client application development. Prior to joining Google, she spent several years working for a small Canadian wireless startup company, which makes her a relative old-timer in this extremely fast-paced and exciting area. She received her M.Math and B.Math (both in Computer Science) from the University of Waterloo in 2002 and 2000 respectively.
Joanne is thrilled at this opportunity to return to CUTC; she was a planning committee member for the original CUTC way back in 2000 when the conference was much smaller and still held at the University of Waterloo. She makes her home in Waterloo today.

Mike McWilliam
Solar Technology Education Project (STEP), University of Waterloo
Born in 1980 in Calgary Alberta. Raised Surrey BC, Accepted into Mechanical Engineering at the University of Waterloo in 1999. I have a father in the oil industry. As such I have always been interested in
the energy. I started studying energy in 2003. Found out about STEP (www.step.uwaterloo.ca) in Fall of 2003. The following work term I did a lot of reading into the various renewable energy technologies. Consequently I discovered that wind is the most
feasible and economical. I felt that it was not being utilized to its full potential in North America. Since then I have been researching wind energy. In September of 2004 I was accepted to the University of
Waterloo to do my MaSc in Wind Energy. Over that time I have been advancing the wind initiative with STEP. At the time of writing, STEP has raised over $10000 and recruited over 200 volunteers since January 2005.
My vision is a world where our energy infrastructure is sustainable, healthy and environmentally sound. The only way our modern society, with all its technological comforts we have come accustomed to, can survive is by relying on sustainable energy sources.
