Quantum Cryptography
Daniel Gottesman (bio)
Research Scientist
Perimeter Institute
Location: Thornhill
Information has always been valuable, never more so than in recent decades, and throughout history people have turned to cryptography in an attempt to keep important information secret. New technologies are now emerging based on the counterintuitive laws of quantum physics that govern the atomic scale. These technologies threaten cryptographic methods which are in widespread use today, but offer new quantum cryptographic protocols which could profoundly alter the world of cryptography.

A powerful tool to ensure continuous success for the technology firm: Creativity!
Geoff Malleck, MBA (bio)
Associate Director, Student Development
CBET - Center for Business, Entrepreneurship and Technology, University of Waterloo
Location: King City
How is it that some tech firms are here today and gone tomorrow, while others continue to seize new market opportunities. While many reasons contribute to
long term success, one element is promoting creativity and free thinking within the firm. This is often done using a tried and true exercise known by most as
brainstorming. This workshop will provide an opportunity to let your combined creativity and technology background solve some problems and even create future
concepts. Macro factors which create opportunity will also be explored. We will also explore some of the activities/attitudes that suppress creativity in the workplace.

Communications Solutions that Leverage the Intelligent Network
Matthew Lok (bio)
Nortel Networks
Location: Vaughan East
Nortel researchers are exploring and bringing to reality the kinds of new capabilities that an intelligent next-generation converged network will make possible - enabling greater personalization, mobility and simplicity, as well as an entirely new way for people to interact, share information, and collaborate. Nortel is bringing several technologies and products into a network solution that can intelligently and automatically route calls to a person's location, without that person's intervention. For instance, a doctor can receive calls on a mobile device while on hospital rounds, on a cellular phone when outside the hospital, on a desktop phone when in the office, or through voice mail when in surgery. Another physician, meanwhile, can easliy redirect images, such as a radiology image to a nearby radiology station, while on the move. Join us for Nortel's CUTC seminar where these capabilities and the technology behind them will be presented by Matthew Lok of Nortel's Research Partnership Program.
